Call Of Shadows
Cthulhu Mythos Notes
Cthulhu Mythos is a special number pool. It represents how much you have learned about the terrible things that lie between the spaces of reality. Knowing these truths make it quite hard to live a normal life, so even if you do go ‘insane’ you still will be labeled as such by the society you inhabit unless you can make an active choice to never speak of any of it to anyone. In addition, as you come to understand that hallucinations aren’t always fake, your ability to discern authentic hallucinations vs psychic detritus weakens and can reveal your mentally fragile state. As such, learning about the true, awful nature of reality robs you of your sanity.
It’s not all bad though. You’ll be able to defend yourself against the terrible things that lie on the other side of space. You’ll come to understand their motivations, their needs and why it’s so important that you set yourself on fire in the middle of London at midnight.
Cthulhu Mythos can’t be improved with karma. Nor can the damage to your sanity that it causes be undone. (It reduces your maximum) Cthulhu Mythos can only be gained by reading tomes, experiencing the truths of the mythos, or learning about it in other tangible ways. Your character will gain Mythos points based off those interactions. Cthulhu Mythos is a knowledge skill that can only be improved with Mythos points (using normal karma improvement rules).
Cthulhu Mythos must be tracked for both 2074 characters and 1930s characters. Once you have gained some, you may end up finding ways to share that information between each other when it’s important to do so, though doing so is a sanity draining event.
